The first renewal of the girls Goldthorpe Cup took place at Weetwood Sports Park, on Monday July 8th with a 4pm kick off.
National champions and defending cup holders Corpus Christi were back and intent on keeping hold of the trophy. They scored a converted try early and a further three tries, all converted, followed so they led 24-0 at the break. Cockburn did create the occasional opportunity in the second half but strong defence prevented them from scoring. Corpus Christi went on to score a further four more six pointers. It was always going to be a big ask for Cockburn but they showed plenty of spirit and determination right up until the final whistle.
After the game the medals were presented by Shannon Lacey from the Leeds Rhinos Womens team and Abbie from the Womens Academy team. The cup was presented by Stephen McGrail Albert Goldthorpe's great grandson.
