Burley Lawn School - Season 1904 -05

Meeting at the Pavilion Parkside on March 20th the committee made the draw for the 3rd round with the ties due to be completed on or before 1st April.

The committee met at the Green Dragon Hotel on Monday April 3rd to make the draw (below) for the semi-finals and to select the grounds, officials and dates. They also fixed admission charges at Adults 2d and Boys 1d. They also decided that for the final the charge for adults should rise to 3d. Mr T V Harrison was appointed to referee the final tie with Albert and Walter Goldthorpe officiating as touch judges. In view of the expected size of the crowd they also decided to have the services of three policemen.

Burley Lawn and Cockburn made it through to the final which was played on Wednesday April 19th, the weather was very poor and it was soft underfoot. This led to the match being dominated by the forwards. Binns scored two tries for Burley Lawn and their captain Roberts went in for his 116th of the season with Burrell replying for Cockburn. With no goals it finished 9 - 3 in favour of the previous seasons beaten finalists, Burley Lawn.

In making the presentation Mrs Speight the wife of the Hunslet President said that she hoped that the boys would endeavour to follow in the footsteps of the Goldthorpe Brothers.
