The Goldthorpe Cup - Winners

Clapgate School Season 1989-90

Clapgate 30-12 Belle Isle

Clapgate started as favourites as only a couple of weeks previously they had shown some fine team work to win the Dorney-Sheppard Cup. Their rivals, Belle Isle, have also had a commendable season, winning the majority of their fixtures. On this occasion too they played well, but Clapgate’s strong attacking and powerful individuals meant that they were successful.

Thanks to Stephen Boothroyd for this match report that was first published in the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Information below supplied by Tony Gardner.

Whilst talking to Tony about Albert and Hunslet history Tony mentioned that he played for Belle Isle Middle School in the 1990 Goldthorpe Cup Final. Tony said that he did not have the best of games!

Thanks to Tony for this.
