Albert Goldthorpe Medal Winners

Wakefield scrum-half Danny Brough is the first winner of the Albert Goldthorpe Medal, awarded in memory of the former Hunslet captain who led his side to victory in all four cup competitions in 1907-8.

Brough, who received the most player-of-the-match votes in the League Express newspaper, was presented with the solid gold medal and a £2,000 cheque at a lunch at the George Hotel in Huddersfield.

Leeds forward Luke Burgess, 21, was presented with the Albert Goldthorpe Rookie of the Year Medal, while Hunslet stand-off Francis Maloney, 35, received a lifetime achievement award.

The 2009 award winner was Michael Dobson, Sam Tompkins was rookie of the year and Ray French received a lifetime achievement award.

Pat Richards and Sam Tompkins were joint winners in 2010 with the rookie medal going to Liam Watts and the lifetime achievement going to Malcolm Alker.

The 2011 winner was Rangi Chase and Jermaine McGillvary received the rookie award. Mike Stephenson was awarded a lifetime achievement award and Robbie Hunter-Paul received the Albert Goldthorpe playing career award. A new award the Albert Goldthorpe club of the year was won by Warrington Wolves.

Scott Dureau won the award in 2012. John Bateman was rookie of the year while careeer awards were given to David Oxley and Paul Sculthorpe. Wigan were the team of the year and Dave Hadfield was given a special award, the Albert Goldthorpe Pen.

2013 saw Danny Brough become the first player to win the award twice, Tom Lineham was the rookie winner and Harry Jepson won the lifetime achievement award. Team of the year was Huddersfield, Keith Senior and Steve Menzies won playing career awards and Phil Caplan was awarded the Pen.
